Springtime excitement...spilling into summertime Happy!

Sooooo.. Much to talk about I don't even know where to start.... The last few weeks of my life have been energizing, polarizing and FUN! I don't know if its because I am a woman of ahem... a certain age... or natural transition but I am going through it!  For a long time, as long as I can remember I have always fully engaged in whatever moment I am in, mentally fully immersed in the activity. Senses heightened to take in each memory of it, Sight:colors, faces, shapes, Smell:food, sweet or salty air, cologne. Touch: soft, hard, soothing. Getting older for me has lifted that energy vibration up 100 times! I am more in tune with my life than ever before. Gaining a deeper understanding of people around me, listening without judgement, understanding my life path.  So as my life moves forward in the direction of my thoughts and dreams I carry with me past memories of : What I though I knew.  new memories of: What I know now. The Vail is lifted so now what is first to do? So with this springtime renewal which will spill into summertime happy, I take myself on a journey along the way hoping to help others. Introduce you to the greener side of Newark, through my eyes. Tour some of the most beautiful gardens in each of the cities Wards, showcase Jersey fresh fruits and vegetables grown locally, get my hands dirty growing my owns vegetable garden, and best of all enjoying some GOOD Vegetarian meals! My journey begins this Sunday June 8th, I will be posting the pictures along the way.

Brick City Veg Garden Tour 2014    SO EXCITED!

This is MY Newark life, Happy to have you along!

Inspiration

Today I had inspiration coming from everywhere! I was tapped in, inspired, driven to Believe! Believe in the possibilities of life, love, happiness. More days like today keep me creative. The rain was spiritual, like a cleansing to wash the old away and make things new. I am thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. I will continue on my journey to LIVE LIFE each and every minute.

I read this on an Instagram post and it stayed with me all day. I wrote it on my inspiration board at work. i change what is on it each day to be my daily Mantra. Most people who come into my office read it, some make a comment and we will discuss, others just read it and move on. I hope to effect everyone who reads it. The messages are always positive, except on those days when they are NOT! BUT.. the point to help me get through the day so.. today's Mantra is: Breathe Believe Receive in that order

Believe that you can..and you will..

American Cinco de Mayo celebrations started in 1860 in the Southwest and Northwest United States celebration. A celebration started by Mexicans themselves when they defeated the French who were coming to help the Confederate side in the Civil War, they fought hard although the battle was short lived. The French tried to come through Mexico, but they were not having any of it! I always thought that May 5th represented Mexican Independence day; which isn't until September 6th. I did what we do to celebrate : taco dinner, cerveza and Jalepeno poppers, with family, so that makes everything better! Taco night makes everyone feel in control of their own dinner, which helps me to. Reading about Cinco de Mayo, the official day being May 8th- My daughters birthday woo hoo!, which is when the the Mexican army took back control. Being an African American woman, many greats in front, family of a sharecropper and poor Native American/Asian woman, I am celebrating for the strength and resolve of Mexican's to hold off, be defeated, then come again to defeat for their own country people. Their will to believe that they could win that battle even after defeat and they did. Many of their country man died at the hands of the French, yet they pressed on. It reminds me in my life to believe I can, because I can! To press on and try everyday to do more than the day before. Muchas Gracias Mexicans!

Remembering Saturdays

Happy Saturday! Its been a while since I have blogged, and for good reason, I had to resolve within myself what I wanted this blog to be. Vegetarian Information! Information! Information! OR to tell my story as a vegetarian. A Black vegetarian raising a family and living in the heart of Newark. Now I know there are other vegetarians in this city, I have been looking for them! To my dismay they have managed to allude me. None the less I will keep the torch going for my green sista's and brotha's.

I titled this post remembering Saturdays because on this Saturday, I remember to take walks in the park enjoying the warm sun on my skin. I remember to open the doors and let the fresh air in. I remember to dance like no one is looking while cleaning the house and vacuuming! Only to discover when you turn around from your trance like dance state, that your child was watching the whole time with a look of HORROR watching you roll your rolls, and gyrate those hips! I was in my groove YES! I remember lunch with friends, quiet talks and agree to disagree debates. I remember sitting and watching the boats in the harbor in Jersey City and people smiling as they walk slowly together enjoying the moment.

On this Saturday when I resume this blog about the Brick City Veg, I will remember to be authentically me.

Democracy in full force today in the Brick City

There are many days when I miss being in The Brick City, today was one of those days. Democracy and the right to gather was in full force today. Our youth who will be future leaders have shown today that they can rally in support of some issues they believe in. Now I know that not all of the youth who attended today's events came initially to support the cause, but I hope they knew the facts before they left to go home. I was proud of our younger versions of ourselves, deciding to be heard. NJ Stand up and be heard. Check it out for self at http://www.nj.com/ student rallies across the state. Welcome to Brick City Veg.  A vegetarian group looking for other vegetarians, supporters and everyone who is willing to listen. We are based in Newark New Jersey, but welcome others to the blog. Our first earth day event : Lets Celebrate Mother Earth was a chance to celebrate and learn something you didnt know before about being a vegetarian. Decide to come to lecture series, potlucks, events at natural restaurants, book stores and discounts at local businesses. 'Greens and Beans by any means' is the motto we believe.
